To celebrate Michigan State Basketball's 1979 marked the birth of the Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird rivalry. Two of the greatest collegiate players of all-time faced-off in the college championship game that year to a sold out crowd. Magic led the Michigan State Spartans with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to give the Indiana State Sycamores their only loss of the season, and MSU won the '79 championship.
