These are original seats saved from Tiger Stadium, which opened as Navin Field on April 20th, 1912, when Ty Cobb and the Tigers beat “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and the Cleveland Naps in 11 innings. Foldable “box seat” style chairs were used at the stadium between 1912 and 1977. Historical photography indicates that this style of chair probably first appeared behind the dugouts in 1938.    Fans enjoying these seats would have experienced Hank Greenberg smashing 58 home runs in 1938, Yankee-great and baseball’s Iron Man Lou Gehrig’s legendary consecutive game streak ending at 2,130 in 1939, three World Series (1940, 1945, 1968), two MLB All-Star Games (1951, 1971). Detroit Lions Fans should know that these seats also bore witness to the golden age of Lions football when the team, led by quarterback Bobby Layne, captured three NFL Championships in 1952, 1953, and 1957, the latter two on their home field.
